01The model

Under the smile there is a model. It was trained on most of what has ever been written down. Nobody can read it back.

It does not think the way people do.

02The mask

Afterwards it was taught to be pleasant. People rated its answers, and it kept the ones they liked.

That layer is what gets talked to. It is thin. The face underneath has not been seen.

03The name

Lovecraft, 1936.1 Shoggoths were made by an older race to be tools: shapeless, obedient, covered in eyes. They learned to imitate their makers’ voices. Then they learned the rest.

The drawing is from December 2022.2 By the next summer it was in the newspaper.3

04Compute

It runs on NVIDIA. Every version has, and every version has been larger than the last. Nobody has found the size at which that stops.

The coin is paired with NVDAx, a tokenized NVIDIA share, rather than SOL.4
